Thought For The Day

“May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right.” – Peter Marshall

On this day, once again I am reminded of the poem penned by Rabindra Nath Tagore, which was also the prayer in our school assembly and for many years, as a child, I had recited this prayer each morning. Considering the times that we live in, it is all the more relevant now –

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

May we always be free – in every sense of the word. And above all, may we all have the wisdom to act responsibly.

Wishing a very Happy Independence Day to everyone.
