Life Explained: The Wolves Parable

Whenever I have heard of life explained by wise men, almost always there has been the mention of the battle between the good and the bad. Of choices that we make which dictate our actions. Of the perpetual co-existence of God & the Devil – of good and bad.

Of all the conflicts that a man must face, the toughest one is the conflict inside. It is the internal struggle between the good and the bad that each man must face, and decide whether to let the good triumph, or succumb to the bad. Giving in to temptations and negativity is very easy. And yet, in order to choose the right path, man must be strong enough to be able to say no to to the negative influences.

Manoj, a friend of mine, often sends me some excellent stuff in my mail box. A couple of days ago, he sent me this short story which I thought must be shared. Here it is…

This is the best and shortest explanation of life I have come across!

TWO WOLVES

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

“One is Evil –  It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

“The other is Good –  It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

A beautiful parable – we just had life explained to us.

So which wolf would you like to feed ?
